Ramzan, Bonalu Festivals Coincide After 33 Years in Hyd

Ramzan and Bonalu festivals in Hyderabad are coinciding this year,  after a gap of 33 years, which has led to increased focus on law and order. At a review meeting with officials and ministers at Jubilee Hall on Thursday, chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said maintenance of law and order would be the top priority of the state government during the forthcoming Ramzan and Bonalu celebrations. He sought the cooperation of community elders, political parties and organisations in this regard. The chief minister sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore towards arrangements.
He asked the chief secretary PK Mohanty to send a circular to all district collectors to conduct Ramzan coordination meetings in their respective districts.

Hyderabad city police commissioner Anurag Sharma said nearby government buildings would be made available for parking during Ramzan prayer.  GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu said 60 more vehicles were being arranged for clearing debris.

As many as 300 additional tankers would be made available for continuous water supply. One tanker will supply water to Mecca Masjid daily. APCPDCL CMD Rizvi said for uninterrupted power supply at Mecca Masjid, two mobile transformers would be made available.

Civil Supplies Commissioner Sunil Sharma said an additional quota of half kg sugar would be distributed through fair price shops during the festival month. Labour commissioner Ashok Kumar informed the meeting that rules would be relaxed for night bazaars during Ramzan month.

Municipal administration minister M Mahidhar Reddy said sewerage works in old city would be taken up at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
