Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s decision to return to Hyderabad even as the Congress core committee’s meeting was taking place in Delhi on Friday evening has set tongues wagging. Though Reddy’s close aides claimed that the chief minister had to come back to the state as he was not well, rumours are doing the rounds on his sudden and unexpected decision to return to Hyderabad even as his Cabinet colleagues from Seemandhra stayed put in Delhi.
According to one theory, Kiran’s argument that state’s bifurcation would do harm to all the regions and erode the party’s base in Seemandhra had not cut much ice with the high command, a disheartened chief minister chose to come back to Hyderabad.
Prior to the core committee meeting and after holding talks with Digvijaya Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad, he had met Sonia Gandhi at her residence. Soon after meeting her, Kiran appeared very much upset by the decision of party leadership to bifurcate the state and did not show much interest to discuss the issue with his ministerial colleagues who had accompanied him to Delhi from Hyderabad on Friday morning.
He drove straight to the airport and took the next Hyderbad flight much to the surprise of his Seemandhra peers.
