Struggling to find a candidate who can take on Narendra Modi in a one-to-one fight in the Gujarat elections, Congress has decided to project Dhokla, a popular dish from Gujarat, as their Chief Ministerial candidate after Modi will become prime ministerial candidate of India.
“Dhokla is popular with all Gujaratis, Modi won’t be able to find any Muslim or Pakistani link with it, and it will not take any decision without consulting the party high command,” a Congress leader told on conditions of anonymity.
When asked if it was not a bit late as the first phase of voting for the assembly elections was already underway, the leader said, “Better late than never. Even Rahul Gandhi came to campaign on the last day.”
Pictures of the Congress Chief Ministerial candidate were released on this occasion, which showed a saffron colored cubical snack garnished with green pudina leaves.
While Congress is hoping that Dhokla, along with Tulika, will change its electoral fortunes, BJP has again accused the party of misrepresenting facts.
“The pictures that they have revealed are of Khaman, not of Dhokla,” a BJP leader claimed, “Just like they had used fake pictures in their earlier ads.”
But Congress has again rubbished BJP’s charges and asked people to focus on the message, not on the picture.
“You can see Saffron and Green together in the picture – totally secular candidate,” a Congress leader pointed out.
