Manmohan Singh Cabinet is getting worse day-by-day due to various reasons. Several ministers quitting and the situation is more worsen today as a day after minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ajay Maken resigned from his post, CP Joshi, minister for Road Transport and Highways who had additional portfolio of Railways, has tendered his resignation. Now the union cabinet reshuffle is inevitable.
CP Joshi, 62, was Minister for Road Transport and Highways and had assumed additional charge of the Railways last month. Joshi’s resignation has been accepted by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Reports say a cabinet reshuffle is likely tomorrow. This will probably be the last reshuffle in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet before the Lok Sabha elections, which are less than a year away.
Singh had earlier said that there are some vacancies and the issue of filling them up is being considered. Reports say, several incumbent ministers will resign from their cabinet berths and take up roles in All Indian Congress Committee instead, apparently to strengthen the party structure at the grassroots ahead of state and national polls.
The latest vacancies in the Council of Ministers were created by the resignations of Union Ministers PK Bansal and Ashwani Kumar. Bansal quit as Railways Minister last month in the wake of bribery scandal involving his nephew and a Railway Board member. Kumar resigned as Law Minister following a controversy over vetting of a CBI probe report on coal blocks allocation scam.
