WELFARE PARTY OF INDIA ENTERS AP POLITICS

INN News Desk

The Welfare Party of India (WPI), a political outfit floated by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind will organise its first state-level conference on May 26 to announce its assembly election plans, party’s state unit president Malik Moatasim Khan said.

The WPI came into being around 18 months ago and prefers to work with minorities and other marginalized sections of society.

Khan, who earlier served as the (JIH) chief of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, announced that the party was ready to take the plunge and contest in the assembly elections. The party will also take part in local body polls whenever they are held, he said.

Outlining the agenda of the party he said it would demand 12% reservation for minorities in education and employment. Also, representation of the Muslims in elections must be in proportion with their population of 10%, which works out to 30 MLAs and 5 MPs in the state.

Khan said, “We are ready to talk with the BJP and tell them to stop its bias against minorities and express real love for the country.”

He claimed that the WPI cadre in districts was approximately around a lakh.

“We have between 5,000 and 7,000 supporters in each district. We are against casteism, communalism, criminalization of politics and believe in cultural federalism and total justice,” Khan said.
