It is a bitter-sweet day for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Hyderabad. The party threw out one of its official spokes persons K Raghunandan Rao and faced his wrath on one hand and ushered in senior TDP leader Kadiyam Srihari into the party on the other.
Raghunandan Rao, who also belongs to the same caste to which KCR belongs (Velama), set a deadline of 48 hours to explain why he was suspended from the party. He launched a diatribe against KCR and Harish Rao. He “laid bare” the internal issues of the TRS and called KCR and Harish Rao names. Raghunandan Rao is famously known for participating in the morning talk shows.
Meanwhile, Kadiyam Srihari said that he was joining the TRS following an invitation from KCR, trusting that realsing the dream of Telangana was possible only with the TRS and KCR. Incidentally, he also quipped that the TDP would not get candidates to contest in Telangana. He was offered a pink coloured scarf and ushered into the party by KCR at TRS Bhavan. Srihari said that the TDP gave him utmost importance and helped him grow politically. He vowed to work for realising the Telangana state.
Raghunandan Rao sought to know if safeguard KCR from the verbal attacks by others amounted to betrayal of the party. He asked as to why a show-cause notice was not served on him if he had done anything wrong. He said he was ready for any punishment if the charges against him were proved.
Stating that KCR had no capability to realise the Telangana state, he said the TRS chief had no courage to talk directly face to face to anyone. Raghunandan sarcastically said KCR should be made president of the world association of cowards.
Charging that Harish Rao tried to dethrone KCR and become the party president, he said he could prove how much money he took from different people to achieve it, with evidences. He said Harish also took money from him. He questioned in anguish if this was the reward he should get for 13 years of untiring work for Telangana. Stating that he had CDs of the visuals of underhand dealings of KCR int hotel rooms with some politicians, he warned that he would release them if necessary.
Swearing on Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati, he said he had not betrayed the party. He also said he would wage a legal battled if the charges against him were not proved. He questioned why TRS was taking decisions only during nights.
He said he would rub his nose onto the ground if charges that he collected money from companies was proved. He challenged the party leaders to prove their charges within 48 hours. He said that he got Xerox copies of the cheques the party leaders got from industrialists by threatening. He also faulted the party for admitting leaders like Kadiyam, who abused KCR.
His vituperative extended to charging Harish Rao with giving money to K K Mahender Reddy to ensure the defeat of K T Rama Rao in Sircilla; Harish Rao’s “alleged assurance” to YS Rajasekhara Reddy that he would join the Congress; admitting granite businessman Gangula Kamalakar into the party making former MLA Naradasu Lakshmana Rao a scapegoat; ditching former MLC R Satyanarayana of MLA ticket from Medak after promising the same. He went onto charge KCR with taking money from KVP Ramachandra Rao, Congress MP and a close aide of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Even the TRS leaders gave an effective repartee to him asking if Raghunandan was joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on May 17. Politburo member of the party Rajaiah Yadav said Raghunandan did not want to contest when the party was weak. Now, he was angling for a party ticket to contest and his criticism of Harish Rao, KCR and KTR was baseless.
Meanwhile, the TRS cadres ended up in fisticuffs in one of the local training programmes. The two groups hurled plastic chairs at one another and literally threw blows. The day is TRS’ day.
