AP Chief Minister Kiran Reddy may be right in questioning whether Mahbubnagar MP KCR was visiting his Parliamentary constituency and solving the problems of the people. He also went on to claim that he visited Mahabubnagar more number of times than KCR.
“I visited your district seven times in the last two years but how many times your MP called on you during the last four years?” he asked people while inaugurating the Revenue Sadassus at Dhanwada in Mahbubnagar district on Tuesday. But, who will answer the reflexive question: “So, what?”
The Chief Minister owes an explain as to what extent the district has witnessed development due to his seven visits or how it was pushed back into dark ages due to Chandrasekhar Rao’s staying away.
Drinking water is still a scarcity and migration of people continues unabated from the district. Leaders may come and go but the people’s problems will remain forever. It is true that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K Chandrasekhar Rao rarely visited his constituency like other elected representatives in the last four years.
While his supporters say that the TRS leader has been leading the movement for a separate state but is keeping an eye on the development of Mahbubnagar district, the MP’s detractors pointed out that it was the habit of Chandrasekhar Rao to sleep in the farm house after getting elected from a particular area, be it Mahbubnagar or Karimnagar.
The other reason why Chandrasekhar Rao is staying away from Mahbubnagar district is that he is unlikely to contest from the Mahbubnagar constituency as the party has no strong base in the district.
Though the Telugu Desam and Communists supported the TRS in 2009 elections, he won the seat with a niggardly majority of 20,000 votes. Even the Muslims will not support him in the next elections as Chandrasekhar Rao has announced his intentions to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
But, the Congress is in no better position in the district. It has not won any byelection that happened after 2009 in the district. Jupally Krishna Rao, who resigned from his Kollapur seat, was re-elected on Telangana Rashtra Samithi ticket, while the TRS lost to BJP in Mahbubnagar Assembly seat. Nagam Janardhan Reddy was elected as an independent with TRS support. But, the Congress has not been able to put up a fight.
