Azharuddin, The Savior?

Will the Kiran government survive, if opposition parties move a no-confidence motion in the ensuing assembly sessions? This is the question being hotly discussed in the political circles. It is in this backdrop that a mediator was pressed into action, it is learnt. Former Indian captain and MP Azharuddin is a known close confident of the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. In the recent past, Azhar has been meeting Kiran whenever he went to Delhi.

Now Azhar once again met Kiran, who went to Delhi for finalization of the MLC candidates. Though he said it was one of those regular and routine meetings, some say there is something more to it. Assembly sessions would soon be held in the state. Kiran government which has been surviving with a wafer thin majority would be in trouble, if opposition parties move a no-confidence motion. Even the Congress government knows that there would be a serious problem, if all the opposition parties join hands and move the no-confidence motion.

There are reports in political circles that Azharuddin was being used as a mediator in this backdrop. The Kiran government appears to be confident that Azhar’s mediation would be successful. Congress would surmount the problem if the MIM members abstain at the time of voting on the no-confidence motion. It is learnt that the Chief Minister met Azharuddin in this context.
