Hit & Run Case: Salman Khan May Face 10 Years Jail

In a major setback to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, a Magistrate’s court accepted the plea of the Maharashtra government that he should be tried under section 304 (II) of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), a graver offence, in the 2002 hit and run case. At present, Salman is being tried under section 304 (I), (rash and negligent driving) which attracts maximum punishment of two years. Section 304 (II) attracts the maximum sentence of ten years. Following today’s order, the Magistrate committed the case to Sessions court for trial, as the offence is serious. “Salman would have to appear before the Sessions court on February 11,” said his lawyer, advocate Dipesh Mehta. On September 28, 2002, Khan’s Toyota Land Cruiser, allegedly being driven by him, rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four others who were sleeping on the pavement. The trial before the Bandra Magistrate’s court started in 2006.
Next Project As Producer? Salman Khan’s production company , Salman Khan Being Human Productions (SKBHP), is all set to produce low budget films that will almost always have a happy ending and a strong moral message as well. SKBHP’s first outing at the box office was in 2011 with Chillar Party that won National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. And no there’s no sequel in the offing. Not yet anyway. Salman told HNN, that the production house is working on their next film and is going through two to three scripts. Salman Khan, who’s films often end up being a part of  the Rs 100 crore earning club and are often made on an extravagant scale, said that it was  imperative that the movies that his production house made were on small budgets. “Technically, the money that goes into production isn’t the foundation’s money, since it goes from our pockets. Still, the idea is to make a good film with little money that brings in big business and helps our foundation grow,” said Salman. The actor is vying for an audience that mainly consists of children as his target audience and reiterated that the banner aims to make ‘feel good’ films.
Asks Fans To Support Kamal Haasan: Salman Khan has joined in the list of celebrities who have come out in support of superstar Kamal Haasan, who is currently facing a ban on his big-budget filmVishwaroopam. “It is just a movie and there are only two kinds of movies good or bad, hit and flop and only people who decide are ones who buy tickets. Hope each and every fan of his supports him like I am doing and want all my fans to fully support him,” Salman posted on micro-blogging site Twitter. The 47-year-old also requested people to stand outside cinema halls and insist on watching the movie. “Then go stand out side the cinema hall and insist on seeing the film, its a movie dude, entertainment, what law and order problem on a movie? Go there insist that you wanna see it, there is a supreme court judgement after the film is censored no body can stop it.” Members of the film fraternity like Shah Rukh Khan, Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar have also supported Haasan. Vishwaroopam, which is approximately made on a budget of 100 crores, has been banned from being screened in Tamil Nadu after protests from some Muslim groups claiming that the film shows the religion in negative light.
