Will Political Movies Influence Elections?

By Swarupa Rani

The nexus between the film industry and the political stream has been getting strong with each passing day and it must be said that perhaps Andhra Pradesh seems to be the only state that has got such strong influence of film folk into the political system.

So it is but natural that the film circuit is being made use of to create a larger impact on the masses and also project themselves. However, this has given rise to a new talk as to how much of all this is really effective.

Apparently, there have been a flurry of movies that have been hitting the screens lately and there are a few more that are in the pipeline and they have a set agenda to show a stick to their political rivals and create their own messages to the audience. The truth is, many who have been watching such movies are least impressed and say that these are cheap tactics to influence a more conscious voter and that is not going to work out anymore.

There are those who are realistic and say that the idea of watching a movie is to get some entertainment and keep the mind occupied from all pressure for two and a half hours but even there if politics are being shown then nothing can be more disgusting than that. Whether this sort of feedback will stop the political or the associated film folks or not, the decision is clear from the people perspective that movies with political undertones may appeal to just a few and the major lot are too keen to watch them.

On the lighter but meaningful side, there is one section of people who say that the political mileage will be more for these aspirants if they don’t waste their money on making movies and instead use it to provide amenities in their respective localities or constituencies.

That way, there is some concrete development and contribution that will be seen and it will be useful to the society for a longer period instead of expending two and a half hours. Hope the concerned people are reading this…
