Marina's Homely Ambiance, A Delicious & Hot 'Fishy Meal'

SPONSORED: Home reminds of my old cushy bed, my wooden study table, my sunny terrace and the smell of freshwater fish cooking in my mum’s kitchen.

I’ve been away from home for over 10 years now, so you can understand my Bengali attachment to fish. I won’t call myself a fish lover, but I have grown to like and even seek out restaurants in Mumbai that make quality fish dishes. It’s a side effect of being away from home for so long, I suppose.

When I heard that Hotel Marine Plaza had introduced a new addition in their menu, titled Tilapia Moments at The Bay View and The Oriental Blossom, I knew I had to go sample it.
On a balmy evening, I set off to treat myself to a fishy meal. After we settled down at The Bay View with a night view of the Queen’s Necklace to our right, I picked up the menu. It had dishes like Nistem Reshad Fry, Tawa-e-Macchli, Charcoal Smoked Tilapia and Amritsari Tilapia. It was enough to set my tastebuds drooling in anticipation.

Now, I have been told by my father—an expert taster and buyer of a little too much fish—that Tilapia as a freshwater fish is packed with nutrients. Its mild flavour adapts to various cooking methods and recipes. We started our meal at the buffet section, sampling the wide range of delicacies from their regular menu. The appetiser, a French onion soup, had cleared my palate and I was ready to submit to the potpourri of flavours that the Tawa-e-Macchli promised to be. Steaming hot, coated in freshly ground masalas, the dish was undoubtedly the highlight of our meal that evening. We then tried the Nistem Reshad Fry—a homely, mildly spiced dish that best went with our steamed rice.

We ended our meal with some delicious desserts, including a mango panna cotta, from the buffet. I took a cab back home, drowsy from the generous meal and the taste of home lingering in my head.
