Seemandhra ‘Rebel’ MPs To Float 'New Party' On Jan 17?

By Ramesh Reddy | INN Live

Informed speculation in the corridors of power suggests that it will not be Kiran Kumar Reddy, but one of the Congress MPs, who moved a no-confidence motion against the UPA government in Lok Sabha, who will float a political party. Kiran will be invited to join the new outfit. The party is likely to be announced on January 17 after Sankranti, as per the buzz. Kiran will join the party only after January 23, the day by which the legislative assembly has to send back the Presidential reference on the T Bill, suggest sources in the corridors of power. The party is likely to be named 'Jai Samakhya Andhra' or 'Samaikhyandhra Congress Party'.
Other than the MP, who is also a business magnate, some representatives of the government employees’ organization that led the Seemandhra agitation for nearly 70 days will be part of the founding team of the new party.

Reliable sources suggest that the party will field a large number of students and leaders of joint action committees in the upcoming assembly polls. An exercise to identify probable candidates is it an advanced stage. A draft manifesto is also almost ready.

Sources say that the businessman MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who will launch the party, has no chance to win if he seeks a reelection on a Congress ticket from his home turf of Vijayawada. That is why he seeks to open a new front. Though not known to be close to Kiran in the past, the dynamics of the current political situation has brought them close. Rajagopal was not available for comments. APNGOs association president Ashok Babu is expected to be one of the founders of the party.

It is understood that those who will become the head honchos of the party have already conducted four election surveys and claim to have got ‘positive results’. As a result of this, the party will not only field candidates in Seemandhra but in some districts of Telangana too. The party will not field candidates in Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad.

Though not all, the party expects a large number of Congressmen from Seemandhra to join its bandwagon. Many of them are already negotiating with the YSR Congress and TDP. In the present scenario, YSR Congress has a sizeable lead in the Seemandhra region but with another new party in place, Jagan’s outfit could receive a setback. Chandrababu Naidu feels that the new party will damage the prospects of YSR Congress more than that of TDP and therefore is perceived to be eagerly awaiting the development.

Political analysts said that the formation of the party will be a slap in the face for Sonia Gandhi. “For so long the party is in the works and the Congress bosses claim to know everything that is happening in Delhi. So how come the high command failed to take preventive steps?” asked a miffed local Congress leader. With the new party in place, the Congress now cannot expect to win even a single Lok Sabha seat in Seemandhra. “What a great fall!” remarked the Congress leader shaking his head in disbelief.
