Keeping up with the digital boom in India, Tata Motors is now looking to sell its most affordable car, Nano, through the internet. Tata Motors is said to be looking at an online booking scheme for the Nano wherein the buyer will be able to book the car and pay the initial booking amount through an online portal and get the car delivered at their door step or get delivered at the nearest Tata Motors dealership, according to Overdrive.
Online selling is just one of the many ideas Tata is employing to push sales. Although priced at an aggressive Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the sales of the Nano have not met Tata’s expectations.
In March, Tata Motors started offering the Nano to consumers who wished to purchase it using credit cards. The buyers had the option to convert the entire amount into equated monthly installments (EMIs) at zero per cent interest over a period of 12 months in what would be among the fastest methods to own a car. The EMI would be Rs 8,333 per lakh.
According to media reports, sales of the Tata Nano has stabilised at around 2,000 units a month, a far cry from the predicted sales of 20,000 a month.
The highest monthly sales achieved by the model since its commercial launch in 2009 was nearly 10,500 units. The company recently launched the 2013 Nano with a bunch of upgrades.
The top-end Nano will now offer remote keyless entry, twin gloveboxes, and a four-speaker music system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in connectivity. Two new variants of the Nano will be launched by the end of the year.
